PerioRestore®: A Simple At-Home Approach to Healthier Gums

Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile. If your gums bleed when you brush, look red or swollen, or you have persistent bad breath, these may be signs of gingivitis or periodontal (gum) disease.

At Farwest Dental Group, we believe treating gum disease shouldn't stop when you leave the dental office. For appropriate patients, we may recommend PerioRestore® as part of an at-home periodontal care program to complement professional dental treatment.

What Is PerioRestore®?

PerioRestore® is an oral cleansing gel containing hydrogen peroxide. When prescribed with a properly fitted custom dental tray, the gel can be held against areas around the teeth and gums for a specific period of time.

The goal is to help control harmful bacteria and improve the environment around the gums as part of a comprehensive periodontal treatment plan.

Signs Your Gums May Need Attention

Don't ignore bleeding gums. Talk to your dentist if you notice:

  • Red, swollen, or tender gums

  • Bleeding while brushing or flossing

  • Persistent bad breath

  • Gum recession

  • Sensitivity around the gumline

  • Loose teeth

  • Deep periodontal pockets

Early treatment is important because periodontal disease can progress without causing significant pain.

How Does PerioRestore® Treatment Work?

If your dentist determines that you're a good candidate, a custom-fitted tray may be made specifically for your mouth.

A small amount of the prescribed gel is placed into the tray, which is then worn according to your dentist's instructions. The custom tray helps keep the gel in contact with the targeted gum areas.

Depending on your periodontal condition, PerioRestore® may be incorporated alongside professional dental cleanings, scaling and root planing, periodontal maintenance, brushing, flossing, and other treatment recommended by your dentist.

What Are the Potential Benefits?

When appropriately prescribed and used consistently, an at-home periodontal program may help patients:

  • Reduce gum inflammation and redness

  • Reduce bleeding

  • Control bacteria associated with gum disease

  • Improve overall gum health

  • Maintain the results of professional periodontal treatment

  • Establish a more effective daily gum-care routine

Results vary from patient to patient. PerioRestore® is not a substitute for professional diagnosis or periodontal treatment when those services are necessary.

Consistency Makes the Difference

Periodontal disease is not something that should be treated once and forgotten.

The best results come from combining professional periodontal care with excellent daily home care. Use your custom tray exactly as instructed, brush twice daily, clean between your teeth every day, and keep your recommended periodontal maintenance appointments.

Bleeding Gums Are Not Something You Have to Ignore

If your gums are frequently red, swollen, tender, or bleeding, schedule an evaluation with Farwest Dental Group.

We'll evaluate your gums, measure your periodontal health, and determine whether professional periodontal treatment and an at-home option such as PerioRestore® may be appropriate for you.
